Elna's Food Garden

Pretoria, Gauteng

About Elna

Gardening Experience: Intermediate

I'm Elna from Pretoria - live in an old house with big yard (very untidy yard . . ). Live with partner and son (15), 3 dogs. Working from home for two years now . I have started a herb/vegetable garden but not sure I know what I'm doing - the soil this side of Pretoria (Mayville) just start getting "turf" like and I would like to learn what to do about it. Have always enjoyed herbs, but never had too much success with vegetables.

Looking forward to the course - course materials look great!

I have started my garden at the beginning of October and so "skipped" some of the planning. I will re-plan and make changes as time goes on. Here are some before and during photos. The garden is about 4 X 3 meters.

We have clayish soil. I have put everything organic in a compost area and this is what I have worked into the soil as well as a little river sand (I thought it was a lot, but looked very thin when spread over the garden).

I have planted sweet basil, tomatoes, chives, eggplant, spinach, strawberries, lettuce, rocket, thyme, oregano, and also some marjoram. I have sowed some sweet peppers.

I add photos of the two culprits from which I must fence my garden, Scooby and Jessie who burrows cool sleeping area everywhere, dig bones and also "mark" the vegetables."
